The Municipality of Piraeus, as the Beneficiary, in collaboration with the Public Benefit Municipal Enterprise of Piraeus (KO.D.E.P.), as the Management Body, announce the start of the implementation of the “Housing & Work III” project, within the “Housing” program & Work for the Homeless”, as a continuation of the Housing and Social Care Actions for the Homeless, of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, with the National Institute of Labor and Human Resources (EIEAD) as the Managing Authority.

Within the framework of the “Home & Work III” program, 20 households with a total of 38 beneficiaries have joined, who have already been registered by the Social Services of the Municipality as homeless who either live on the street, or in inappropriate accommodation or in Women’s and Homeless Hostels that have complete their 18th year of age. More specifically, 10 single-person households, 6 adult cohabitations and 4 nuclear and single-parent families are included. Of all adult beneficiaries, a minimum of 20% will be included in the pillar of the labor reintegration of adult beneficiaries able to work, with the aim of integrating them both into work and into the social fabric, as well as providing training services to 10% of beneficiaries.

Specific Objectives of the Plan are:

  • The immediate transition to independent forms of living through the provision of housing and social care services, as well as the rent subsidy, the provision of household goods, the coverage of electricity expenses, as well as training activities of the beneficiaries.
  • The mobilization for reintegration into the social fabric through the provision of counseling and work reintegration services.
  • The development of synergies with co-competent Social Services of the Beneficiary and other Public Bodies.

The program started on 1/6/2022 and will last a total of 24 months. It primarily aims to transition from the model of managing homelessness from emergency housing structures through homeless shelters to more efficient and sustainable options such as rental housing. In addition, it includes the reintegration of the beneficiaries into the labor market by creating conditions for effective social integration, empowerment and independence of the participants, as well as training actions for them.
